21st Century Practitioner Scholarship

Application deadline: August 30, 2019 [2019 SUMMIT *extended deadline] -or- September 30, 2019 [SOPHE 2020 CONFERENCE]

  • This award provides event support to SOPHE members who are health education specialists and practitioners at the national and/or chapter levels to facilitate their professional development and attendance at SOPHE's events. Applicants will select the event, the Annual Conference, March 17-20, 2020 in Atlanta or Annual Advocacy Summit in Washington, DC (fall), based on the application cycle and deadline listed on www.sophe.org.

    Scholarship support can include any combination of registration fees to the conference or summit and any real and reasonable travel expenses incurred, as per federal per diem, and lodging at the official event hotel or a substitute hotel, not to exceed the cost of the assigned event hotel.

    SOPHE also encourages and allows conference/advocacy support funds to be used for supplemental SOPHE chapter membership.

    Total support cannot exceed $800 and is reimbursed upon submission of receipts, required travel reimbursement form following the event, and one-page personal statement describing how the information will be shared or applied in his/her work.

    Application Requirements:

    • Proof of active national SOPHE or chapter membership.
    • Resume/CV documenting full-time employment as a health educator for at least three years.
    • Letter from national or chapter SOPHE leader/committee chair, verifying your active volunteer service for at least 12 months.
    • One page personal statement should express enthusiasm for attending the conference or summit, be typed, single spaced, maximum of 1-page in length, minimum of 11-point font and 1-inch margins on all sides, use standard rules of grammar, punctuation and writing.
    • Description of your SOPHE volunteerism activities at the national or chapter level and how you will share information from this conference with members of your chapter, Community of Practice, forums, university, non-governmental organization, agency or work program.

    Assemble resume/CV, proof of membership, volunteerism service letter, and personal statement into one PDF document before completing and submitting the online application.
