Determinants, Perceptions, and Behavior of Flavored Ecigarette Use among Youth in the U.S.

Meeting Description:

Dr. Julia Cen Chen-Sankey will present key findings of articles related to the social determinants, perceptions, and behavior of flavored e-cigarette use among youth in the U.S. This webinar will inform local and federal government agencies to develop new policies to restrict or ban flavored e-cigarettes in their own jurisdictions. This webinar will also help health education practitioners at school and community levels to develop education messages and materials targeting youth. Public health practitioners can also use the information from this webinar to formulate campaign messages to educate the public about the potential harm and risks of using flavored e-cigarettes by youth.

 Presenter Information

Julia Cen Chen-Sankey, PhD MPP

Dr. Julia Chen-Sankey is a postdoctoral fellow at the Intramural Program of the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD). Dr. Chen-Sankey’s current research examines the use and perceptions of flavored tobacco products among vulnerable populations. Specifically, she explores how flavored tobacco use may contribute to the progression of tobacco use behavior and the establishment of nicotine dependence among the vulnerable populations and the dual use of flavored e-cigarettes and combustible tobacco products among young adult smokers. Dr.Chen-Sankey’s research on flavored tobacco was published in top substance use journals including Drug and Alcohol Dependence,

Substance Use and Misuse, and Tobacco Regulatory Science.
